IGNORANCE SHOULD BE BLISS!

April 8, On into Campwood 44 miles
While breaking camp this morning the day patrol sheriff stopped to chat to see how our night was. We told him that his night colleague had 'checked us out' during the night and decided we were legals. He said that last month they got about 420 lbs of drugs with one stop and another time there were two cars traveling together with drugs. They got one of them with 61lbs of cocaine but the other car got away.
A few minutes later a red pickup truck went by, saw us, did a U turn and came back to chat also. He had seen us setting up camp the night before on his way home. His name is Julio and he's a 'dozer contractor for the ranchers and sometimes has to camp out on his job. He told us about the illegals from S. America that come through there. They are more dangerous that the 'wets' and usually carry guns and have ransacked ranch houses. No fatalities...yet! We probably would have been okay without that information.

The ride was beautiful! Green country, partly cloudy, nice breeze. However Rusty's knees started bothering him (we're having so much fun we forget we're old) and we stopped to walk often. When we stopped for PB&J Rusty found a hose at a ranch house and filled our water bottles. It's always a good feeling to be able to drink all the water you need. We're planning to stay at a private campground in Campwood which means the facilities should be nice. We did buy some baby wipes a few days back to clean up with. They help.

When we got to the campground we checked out their little store for our dinner options and they had ZIP! Rusty didn't want to just do a "saddlebag potluck" so we rode on in to town. No official camping areas and since we'd had enough along side the road adventure for a while we stayed in a motel and it gave Rusty a good chance to ice his knees. Set out to find a restaurant for dinner and discovered that on TUESDAYS they are all closed except one. WHY TUESDAYS? The little diner that was open had a delicious fajita salad and a very tasty hamburger! Wouldn't it be great if food always tasted this good? Oops! Maybe not without the 4,000 calorie burning days!

It is great to hear about your ride, you are both doing so well. Not sure Karen and I could hang together for that long on a bike. We are looking forward to meeting up with you all in Lampasas but not sure we can take the two days to ride our bikes, sounds silly compared to you. Whick day do you expect to be there?

OH MY STARS YOU GUYS!!!! Being concerned about bad guys is one adventure you don't need.
If you weren't an honest pair you could make some money- since you're so innocent looking!
Love you!
