April 1, Hatch to La Mesilla, NM 40 miles
Battled the wind again today. Rode about 9-10 mph with head and side winds. We set up our tent in an RV park, did laundry and hung it up to dry on a make shift clothesline between trees. Had a delicious gourmet meal in camp of rotisserie chicken, steamed broccoli and ranch beans! Walked to La Mesilla Historic plaza about 1/2 mile away and enjoyed some shopping and sight seeing. Very charming old area and it brought back memories of six years ago when Georgia was there with WT's. It has some Billy The Kid history connected with it.
That night the wind kicked up and actually changed direction giving us quite a noisy night in the tent. No, the tent didn't get blown down.
Another thing we have learned: Wind counts!

I remember the wind blowing and blowing one night, when we were camping on the beach at Rocky Point. I was worried that our camper would blow away, so I can imagine enduring the wind in a tent. Way to go!!!
