April 10 - Vanderpool to Bandera - 45 miles
Awesome ride! This is the Hill Country ride I remember! Yesterday s ride prepared us for this one. The cabin owner last night said "if you can do those hills today you can handle tomorrow's ride okay" and he was right! It certainly is all relative, as they say and today's ride was comparatively "a piece of cake"! We stopped at Cider Mill Love Creek Apple Shop in Medina where WT's had stopped six years ago and we enjoyed a delicious lunch. That is another place we would recommend if you are going through Medina. We had also been there a couple of years ago with Nanette and Fred's family and it has become one of our favorite stopping places in the Hill Country with lots of memories that keep getting better each time!
We camped in Bandera at an RV park close to the beautiful, lazy Medina River. We had the camping area all to ourselves except for a donkey that was corralled nearby. We sat down by the river and ate our dinner of cottage cheese, fresh cantaloupe and apple pecan cake from the Cider Mill Apple shop. The sun was glittering on the water and there was a soft breeze with birds singing and turtles sunning on the rocks.
Life is so good! and we are so blessed to be here!
