FINALLY SOME GOOD MILEAGE

April 16 - Lampasas to Hico - 70 miles
Left Lampasas about 9:00A and arrived in Hico about 4:30. Rolling up and downs w/tailwind most of the way. This is the most miles we have done in one day so far. There's a big difference in the mileage when the elevation and the wind cooperate. Nice to be out of the serious climbs and get some good mileage in. The ups and downs are fun to ride. It takes some planning to use the downhill for momentum to make it uphill and to keep our trailer going up with us instead of pulling us down. We've thought that a "jet assist" for our trailer would be a good idea!
After a stop at the local grocery story for supplies and chocolate milk, We stopped at "EZ DUZ IT" RV Park outside of town. One of the first things we ask is if they have "Facilities". None here. The owners looked at us and determined that we didn't want to ride another 25 miles to the next RV park and there was a storm forecast for that night so they invited us to "camp" on the floor in the office/store and use the restroom there for the night. They closed up at 5:00 and we had it all to ourselves. Of course there was no shower but we improvised.
Joann and Darwin, the owners, have had this park for 12 years . Once a month there in the office/store they have a "Pick In" which is like a jam session for bluegrass musicians. Joann's husband taught her to play the guitar about a year ago. (maybe there's still hope for Georgia to learn to play the piano.) They are retired folk probably a little older than we are and having a wonderful time. She does beautiful oil paintings of Texas scenery and people and adds her special touch of blue bonnets, etc to all kinds of knickknacks. We were cozy and comfortable in our deluxe lodging. We are grateful again for such kind and caring people!
