April 26 - Centerville to Huntsville - 54 miles
After Rusty hit the wall yesterday Georgia got to thinking if we were riding "smart". We decided to send all our cooking gear and cold weather stuff home which we figured amounted to about 15 pounds. The clerk at the motel told us that the Post Office was open till noon (this was Sasturday) So we loaded up what we wanted to send home and rode to the post office. It was closed. So back to carrying all our gear at least until our next tantrum
More steep rolling hills out of town! The kind that you ride like crazy downhill hoping to get enough momentum to make it at least part way up the other side but by the time you are there you are in the granny-ist of granny gears- there's nothing lower and so you just get into "THE ZONE" , just keep pedaling and don't look up. We crept to the top of a hill after several climbs and a forest service pickup truck stopped to chat. We asked him if the rest of the road was going to be like this and he said "pretty much" but that it flattens out considerably around Madisonville which was about sixteen miles up a head. He asked if he could do anything for us, get us anything, and we told him we were fine BUT GEORGIA SAID SHE COULD USE SOME POSITIVE ATTITUDE. He smiled and thought for a moment then said "Well, you're farther along than when I saw you in town earlier this morning."
The ride did flatten out and we made good miles to Huntsville. Steven and Crystal came to pick us up from Katy which is about an hour and half drive. We wanted very much to be with them for the weekend and we just didn't make the miles. We got a motel room to store our gear over the weekend and Steven and crystal will bring us back here to begin our ride to Louisiana Tuesday morning.
SIDE NOTE: Rusty just came in the room and said "Guess how much weight I've lost!" and then let go of his casual shorts which fell to the ground while still snapped and zipped! Who needs scales!

Maybe you two will look like those two bikers you met at the begining of Texas when you are done. I don't think that we will recognize you when you get to Wisconsin.
We're feeling the pressure but we're still eating and enjoying the ride. We'll have a challenge when we get home to not eat like this since we won't be riding like this! "Eat to Ride!" "Ride to Eat!"
