Mar 29 Silver City to Deming NM, 55 miles
Great ride! Great wind...side and sometimes tail! Yahoo! Great rest area with really, really cold pop!
Took some fun pictures ..we'll be putting them on snapfish soon. The bike shoes picture...well, a man on the street in Silver City the day before told us that my shoes were cuter that Rusty's. What can I say! Another picture is of the painting on the wall in the women's restroom. The lonely weary Indian warrior on his weary horse with the words painted along side NO SMOKING. Good message and the picture was worth a thousand words!
We stuffed our bike rig in a tiny little motel room in Deming, ate dinner at a truck stop across the street and enjoyed a very light fare with a delicious salad bar and grilled chicken! (That doesn't look good for the truck stop diner reputation), took a four mile round trip walk to Wal-Mart (because it was the only real grocery store in that part of town) to restock our chuck wagon and to prepare for our Sunday day of rest. Attended church with the saints there and were replenished.
Remember the question posed in an earlier post: " Why do people choose to live where they do?" In Relief Society (the women's class) Sunday in Deming the lesson was on gratitude. One of the questions the teacher asked was "How many of you did not want to come to Deming to live?" About 1o women out of 14 raised their hands and two of us who didn't were visitors. Some of the women shared their feelings about coming to live there. One woman said when her husband told her they were being transferred to Deming, NM she said to him "Deming is a place where you stop to get gas on your way to someplace else!" Another woman said that the wind blows dirt all the time and if you don't dust in your house you'll have enough dirt to grow something. But as the discussion developed each woman shared feelings of gratitude for being there and how the Lord had blessed her life. I was grateful to have been there in Deming that Sunday as well. We chose to be there.
