The brakes on the Subaru had developed a high pitched
whirling sound and it was a concern especially since in a few days we would be
out in the Nevada desert on “the loneliest highway in America”. We woke up to a rainy foggy day and decided
it would be the perfect day to take a break and get the brakes fixed. Drove back to Shingle Springs Subaru and had
the work done actually very efficiently especially since we didn’t have an
appointment. Finished up and headed out
on the road again about 3:00. Still very
rainy and not a fun day to ride the bike.
We had a beautiful drive up the High
Sierras to about 8,000 feet and enjoyed every turn of Willie’s wheels. Grateful
to have him along for the ride. Drove
across Mormon Emigrant Trail which is closed from Oct 31 to May 30 because the
snow is not plowed. What a gorgeous
sight that must be in the winter because it was breath taking today! We came off of the trail onto Calif HWY 88
and drove to Silver lake where we wisely stopped for the day at Kit Carson Lodge. A woodsy, delightful, rustic collection of small lodges and cabins. We have a room that is right on the lake
! It is enchanting!
(weather forecast for tomorrow: showers)
