JUNE 29, 2013 THE SPECIAL POWERS OF A BATH TOWEL ( From Austin on the mountain to Eureka in the Gulch)

Having saved so much money on our campsite and being ready for a change from our "campsite oatmeal" we ate breakfast this morning at the International Hotel.  We were looking for something that had some of the Eureka charm.  Our waitress had a white bath towel wrapped around her head .  Reminded me of the head cover of Muslim women but it was definitely a bath towel.  I politely asked her to tell me about the towel.  She said that ever since she was a child she has been very sensitive to ghosts and evil spirits and wearing the towel seemed to help protect her.  I have pondered this and realize how many people in this world are looking for protection against temptation and evil.  I know that it is the Gospel of Jesus Christ that will give them the protection and the strength they are seeking to protect themselves.
Our breakfast was delicious!  I had a HUGE veggie omelet.  Rusty had been c sausage, potatoes and scrambled eggs.  We really enjoyed the change in our breakfast menu!

Before leaving our camp site we visited with the pastor's wife who said that the temperature this week has been the hottest on record.  Lucky us! And add the mountains!

We had checked the elevation panel on our AC map,and knew about the climb up to the two passes up ahead. Willie took us up and over Bot Scott Summit 7,195 dropping down to 5,700 and Hickison Pass 6,594 leveling out to 6,000 feet for abt 25 miles before it starts to climb to Eureka.

We did some "leap frogging" I guess you could call it.  I started the ride.  Rusty drove up a head and rode back to meet me.  We rode together to the car.  Then I drove ahead and rode back to him.  It was fun being on the rode again with each other.

I actually wasn't going to ride at all today feeling weary from my rugged hill ride from yesterday. But it was Rusty's idea and he knew I really wanted to. :-)

Love the weekends!  It means a good bed and waffles for breakfast!

Yesterday we  bought a pin at the little "grocery" store in Austin that reads "I survived Hwy 50".  Well we hope we do!  And it makes for fun memories.
