Today is Rusty’s turn to ride but he is “sharing the road”
with me. It is a beautiful morning and
71 degrees and going to get hotter. It
is 58 miles to Fallon and Rusty said he would split it with me. He wanted me to ride first because it was
going to get hotter and he says he handles the heat better than I do. He’s an “Arizona Boy”…What a guy!
So I headed out of town on Hwy 50 (it’s not the loneliest
yet) on the most perfect ride! There was
a hill out of town for abt a mile but the “10mph in middle ring” kind. Perfect
road surface! Perfect shoulder!
Beautiful weather! Great desert
scenery! AND a tail windl! And then the
gradual downhill started. Looking at the
road it didn’t seem downhill but I was going 20-24 mph in my big ring still
getting contact! What an ego trip!
Tailwind will do that to ya and add the great road surface and gradual
elevation descent into Fallon and it makes for a pretty sweet ride. Willie and Rusty were waiting every ten miles
with water refills and one time a Boston Crème donut! My Favorite.
I rode 28.5 miles and then did the hand off to Rusty. After he started out I rode another 1 ½ miles
to round it of to 30.
Rusty rode 26 miles in
to the Campground 5 miles south of Fallon.
The ride was mostly chipseal with no shoulder AND RUMBLE STRIPS! We had those when we did the Mississippi
River ride. They are buggers to ride on. Jar the bones! So he had to be in the lane almost all of the
time. The last 5 miles were all brand new
asphalt and BIG WIDE shoulder. He was
lovin’ that! However most of the ride
had either cross or head winds.
See what I mean about him being a sweetheart? He really did give me the best miles!!
We have set up camp in Fallon RV park for $24.75! Tent is up.
Laundry done. We are laying in
the shade looking up thru the trees at the blue blue Nevada sky!
