Rain on the roof top all night, rain dripping off of the deck overhang, wind blowing in the trees and fog on the lake! It was MAGICAL this morning! We knew it would not be a riding day so we took our time checking out. Drove thru some of the most beautifully magnificent scenery of the ride thus far as we finished our climb up over the pass at 8,527 feet! I wish you could have seen it! It was the type of ride that would have been so inspiring to ride! But Mother Nature made the decision for us this time. After starting the descent the rain let up and I decided to start riding.
The first ten miles shouldn't even count because I think I pedaled about a dozen times total and the rest of the time feathered my breaks and coasted at 25+ mph. Soon after we crossed our first border coming in to Nevada. That is cause for celebration! (we had been looking for a Wendy's all along and could find one but once in Carson City there were several and we stopped to celebrate our border crossing with a Frosty!! )
The last 12 miles took me in to Genoa on a really smooth newly black topped road along the foothills.
We did the "handoff" there and Rusty rode the last 10 miles into Carson City. He describes his miles as a combination of crazy downhills and "down to the lower ring" up hills. (But nothing like our ride along the Coast Range or the miles up to the Pass).
We are camping at Camp-N-Town in Carson City. $25--prices going down now.
The ride has turned in to about 50/50 bike & car time but we are having so much fun! I always tell people to "Ride their own ride" and that is what we are doing. Our blog is not as interesting as the other touring rides we have done but it is really for our own memories. We encourage you to "Ride your own ride"!!
