We decided to drive more than ride today so we could see some of the things we've missed along the way. A disadvantage to being w/o a vehicle is that it is more difficult to go off course to a special site when it adds miles and fatigue to the trip.
We drove back up road abt 25 miles to the Humboldt Redwoods State Park Visitors Center and learn about the redwoods.
We also drove off course to tour a charming old inn that we could see from the highway. Benbow Inn opened in 1926. Gorgeous historic inn with beautiful English gardens and antique furniture in the lobby. It would be a lovely place to stay.....someday.
While driving we covered a 22 mile climb of twisty and treacherous road that the bike map told us to be sure to allow plenty of time to cover. We are glad we didn't ride it on our bikes. It is a PRIZE WINNER! We finally saw the ocean again at the bottom of the hill
after Eureka and three days on the ride.
I finished the day with 17 miles up & down coast roads arriving in Ft. Bragg. We camped at POMO campground $30 but the best yet. (port-a-potty every couple of camp sites. )
A NEW FAVORITE THINGS OF THE DAY:: The smell of eucalyptus in the air! Enchanting!
For Rusty: seeing the ocean again . The ocean is more "tourquiosey" than our ocean at home.
Really likes this style of riding. Trading off and having "Willie" to help out.
A RUSTY WISDOM:. "This is more like a vacation. The other way is WORK!" ( having a sag vehicle as compared to not having one.)
