Rusty's day to ride: We agreed to meet ten miles out. I stopped at 9.7 at a little beach park and waited....and waited.....and waited. No way was it taking an hour and a half to ride ten miles. YIKES! So I started to back track and couldn't find him.....sound familiar? Now I was worried. Turned out he had ridden past the place where I was waiting because his odometer read 8.7 (or something like that) and he didn't see me. I guess obvious doesn't always mean obvious, huh.. We didn't think to synchronize our odometers or at least compensate for the difference. We had not been able to communicate via cell phones because we had no service. I drove to an area where I could txt him. Soon got a reply. Got organized and met back at the beach site. Rusty ended up riding more than the intended ten miles We ate lunch together and Rusty wanted to just drive awhile. And we both choose not to ride the rest of the day. And as we drove along on miles and miles of narrow winding hills and ocean views with no shoulders and "Share the Road" signs every where we felt good about our decision. FYI: A "Share the Road" sign usually means that the bicycle does not have good shoulder and will probably need to ride in the road. So heads up when you see one of those signs and think of us.(Being able to make this decision was another advantage to having Willie along for the ride.
So it is Saturday night. We've been out a week. Now for a real bed and some amenities.
We stayed at a charming B&B in Point Arena in a little fishing cove. Turns out the amenities were fewer than we had planned on but still a charming place to rest up and spend the Sabbath. (no cell service and no laundry facilities. We snuck into a KOA back up the road about seven miles. Acted like we were "regulars" and for $5 in quarters left with some clean bike clothes for next week. )
