My turn to Ride. For the first thirty miles it was a ride from heaven! Perfect road surface, just enough hills to make one feel good about oneself, an aromatic menu of a wonderful blend of eucalyptus, sea air, pines, cattle and THEN mother nature made a statement! “Let me show you a really GOOD ride!”. The next 23 miles were along the rugged coast line with long steep granny gear climbs (the 3-4 mph kind)climbing to breath taking vistas hundreds of feet above the ocean and then descending down! down! down! with hot rims on the wheels. I stopped whenever I could find a safe turn out to let my rims cool. Most of the climb and decent were on the “Share the Road” with bikes kind of road. But it was a personal challenge and I WOULD NOT WALK!
Willie was waiting for me every ten miles or so and it was so awesome to see that dirty green Subaru! One point Rusty and I visited about the ride:
He said: You are AWESOME!
She said: Thanks. I couldn’t do it without my grannies.
He said: yes I know, but I wouldn’t do it with them
She said: Well, it is really 90% mental. And I want to do this!
He said: That’s right and I don’t want to and don’t have to!
(LOVE THAT MAN!)
At one serious point towards the end of the ride after Rusty went on ahead and left me to ride. He saw the ride I was going to have to do and he told me he said to himself “I need to go back and rescue her!
When I finished we loaded up my bike and headed for the designated campsite: FULL. Next several state parks along the coast were either full or no camping allowed. We drove to Sonoma Coast State Beach Bodega Dunes and paid $33. A very nice facility with green grass and privacy.
