MILAN TO FULTON

May 28, Thursday
54 miles

My appetite has been raging! Foods that have not been in my menu vocabulary for years have surfaced. XCountry bike cravings are worse than prenatal! I wake up hungry and go to bed hungry and eat dangerously detrimental calories in between. We weighed ourselves on Dave & RA's scales. Rusty minus 15 #'s, Georgia minus 0, AND plus 0. In this case minus numbers count.

We slept in today and got a late start because the ride was planned to be only 23 miles to Port Byron. When we arrived we located the Red Brick B&B and were welcomed with ropes across the front porch and no "light left on for us". With no other lodging and no campgrounds, we had no choice but to ride on. The next town was Fulton in the Quad Cities with full service everything. We rode out of town a few miles and discovered a campground by the river. It was 3:00pm. We discussed the option and Rusty let me choose. We rode on!
It was an enchanting day! 99% bike trails and a few back roads that seemed like bike trails. Did need to use our bug spray often (bless that Trail Angel) At one point the bike trail was along the top of the levee and "over yonder" there was a man on his riding mower mowing his acres of lush green front yard. Then I heard this sweet little girl voice and looked closely and could barely see the little girl sitting on her daddy's lap helping him mow. I asked Rusty how often he thinks the man has to mow his yard and he said probably every day. Well, that would be some very special Daddy-Daughter time.
