Rusty and I were trying to decide whether or not to ride out today evaluating the storms, distance and church tomorrow, when we got a call on our motel room phone. Our five year old grandson, Jacob, Nanette and Fred's little boy, was found at the bottom of a swimming pool yesterday (Friday) while at a birthday party. An ER physician "just happened to stop by". I don't know if he was a friend of the family or a parent of one of the other guests and gave him treatment. Jacob was taken by life flight to the hospital. His dad beat the helicopter there and was able to give Jacob a blessing. His heart never stopped beating but was unconscious. He is in the Ped. ICU at the University hospital in San Antonio, TX. The prognosis won't be known until he starts responding to "commands". They figure he was only unconscious for a minute before he was found.
We would have been gone if we had been on our regular schedule. We have no cell service in this little town and have not been able to pull up any auxillary service. Nanette and Fred had left messages on our cell phone but somehow finally found us at this motel. Maybe they checked our blog where I mentioned a Super 8. After the phone call we made our decision. We don't feel like riding today so we'll be here until Monday and do church tomorrow in Fulton.
Please hug each other and your little ones! We pray for our grandchildren every prayer and know the Lord is mindful of them. This is a time when as a grandparent we are so grateful for our testiomonies of the Gospel and it brings us peace.
