"BASIN. FAULT. RANGE."

I've commented quite copiously about the topography of this ride.  Let me say one more thing as we say good bye to Hwy 50.

A quote from our A.C. map:
"The first passage in chapter three of John McPhee's 1980 book "Basin and Range" reads like a travelogue for those crossing Nevada on U.S. Hwy 50:
Basin.  Fault.  Range.  Basin.  Fault. Range. A mile of relief between basin and range.
Basin.  Fault.  Range.  It could well become your mantra as you roller-coaster your way across the Nevada landscape, embraced by a silence broken by few things-the whistle of the wind, perhaps the cry of a raptor, the sound of your rubber tires purring across the surface of the Loneliest Road in America."
