LAST RIDING DAY

May 8 - Lavonia to Port Allen - 35 miles

Oops! We started the morning with a U-turn at 1.5 miles back to the motel to get one or our hydrators. Very important item and worth the return.

We stopped about eight miles from our destination to check the map and found we had missed the road off to our motel. A young man with a horse trailer pulled up behind us on the shoulder and offered assistance. He said he'd put our rig in his trailer and take us to our motel. Kind offer but this was our last day of riding and we didn't want to miss out on any of the miles. Rusty told him about the ferry and the Baton Rouge bridge situation and he offered to take us across the bridge!! Isn't it a wonderful world full of kind, caring people! Don't get discouraged. They are out there everywhere!

When we arrived at the motel we put our bike in storage and sat on the curb to wait for our rental car to arrive. AC riders started to arrive one and two at a time. They were staying in this motel and being escorted across the bridge in the morning!!!!! We had even called Adventure Cycling office to see how their group was crossing the bridge and they didn't have any info. That just proves that to make things happen one has to talk to the right person. We are very happy with our decision and hope they have a safe crossing.

We got our rental car and drove the 24 miles to St Francisville to a charming, Southern B&B to relax and celebrate the end of our ride. It's hard to imagine not getting back on the bike in the morning, and the next, and the next and......

We'll blog about our St. Francisville visit and our thoughts about finishing the ride later. Right now tourist time is a wastin'!

What was the final mileage count? We need to know this stuff, so that when we brag about our parents, our stories can be accurate.
