March 22 Geronimo to Safford, AZ 32 miles
We rode into FT Thomas and stopped at the little store Georgia and WT's had stopped at six years ago. The same man and woman are still working there and said they'd be there when Georgia came back again...whenever . BUT they had no chocolate milk!!
It was a beautiful morning and not a cloud in the sky - again! We are definitely working on our biker tans! We should have bought stock in Sun Screen before we left. It is a "NEED to have" item. We are looking forward to staying at Rusty's cousins, Petrea and Kreg Kunz's in Safford for Easter. Of course camping in the pasture in Geronimo had no amenities and we're looking forward to hot showers and laundry besides some good family time. Petrea is actually in New Hampshire visiting family but Kreg is home.
We arrived in Safford but before going to the Kunz, we stopped at Wal-Mart to check out how to share our pictures which will be happening soon, and went to a bike shop to get a new bike computer (odometer/speed, etc gadget) We had been having trouble the last couple of days picking up readings and finally didn't get anything all the way in to Safford. Checked out the computer and couldn't determine the problem...not the battery. Decided to replace it. Not an expensive item but necessary to find our way and read our maps when we get out of familiar territory and it keeps Georgia occupied keeping track of the tenths of a mile progress on those lonely country roads.

I see two emerging themes here: chocolate milk (or lack thereof) and stores that no longer exist. I guess the Arizona that Rusty knew is passing out of existence. Is chocolate milk part of the official biker's diet, or just something you know you can drink every day because of all the calories you're burning?
I was noticing the same thing about the chocolate milk!
Chocolate milk is a great energizer with the protein and carbs and CHOCOLATE, of course!Yes, it is part of the official biker's diet.
If you were to ask me my three favorite drinks for thirst quenching - the first would be Coca Cola, the second is milk, followed by water. The milk is definitely needed and the extra carbs from the chocolate help to rejuvenate me. Go back on the road with greater energy.
The little stores that used to be there - probably being run by some old guy who retired and his kids didn't want to keep the place - what a shame, especially for thirsty cyclists.
